Selby at a glance

The suburb of Selby has a long and industrious history that dates back to before the discovery of gold in the region. This was said to be around the year 1886. The area that is today known as Selby was previously entitled Turffontein and was originally utilised for farming purposes. The location grew largely due to the mining industry, however by 1928 it was starting to become more of a suburban region. The mining contingent still had an influence and the suburb was named after a mining manager by the name of Paul Selby. The area is situated within close proximity to other suburbs in the vicinity including Forsberg, Mayfair and Rosettenville. Another reason why so many are choosing this area for industrial reasons it's also well located in relation to transport and road links.

Selby is well-located to key points of interest and is a 30 to 40-minute drive to the OR Tambo International Airport (traffic depending) and will be roughly 37 km in distance depending on which route is chosen. Selby is even more conveniently located to the CBD of Johannesburg and is only 15 km to 20 km in distance to Park Station near the CBD.

Some of the malls and shopping areas that service Selby includes Westgate Centre, China Mart, Ever Best Mall, and the Westgate Station. 

Transport

The Selby expanse is littered with train stations from the Metro Rail Train Service. Alternatively one can also utilise a selection of municipal buses which operate throughout the vicinity. Johannesburg and the Gauteng Province also has an extensive minivan taxi service that operates throughout the entire region and many of the built-up urban and rural locations throughout South Africa.
