Selby at a glance

The suburb of Selby has a long and industrious history that dates back to before the discovery of gold in the region. This was said to be around the year 1886. The area that is today known as Selby was previously entitled Turffontein and was originally utilised for farming purposes. The location grew largely due to the mining industry, however by 1928 it was starting to become more of a suburban region. The mining contingent still had an influence and the suburb was named after a mining manager by the name of Paul Selby. The area is situated within close proximity to other suburbs in the vicinity including Forsberg, Mayfair and Rosettenville.
