Northriding and Honeydew

Northriding and Honeydew are two areas which are situated within close proximity to each other in the sprawling metropolitan expanse of Johannesburg. The areas are only 10km apart hence industrial areas have merged to contribute to the industrial boom of the area. North Riding was given its name after historic areas in Yorkshire. Honeydew forms a part of the greater Randpark Ridge and Roodepoort region.

North Riding is famous for being a hive of economic activity some of the more popular industrial hotspots include Northlands Deco Park, VH Fibre Optics, Tiletoria Johannesburg Showroom. Neighbouring Honeydew is also a hive of industrial activity and some of the more prominent industrial areas include Honeydew Business Park.

Industrial/Business Developments and Parks

The Northlands development could very well be one of the largest in the North Riding area and was implemented in order to adhere to the demand for industry and commerce in the expanse. It’s believed to be roughly a million square meters of industrial, commercial and business space. Neighbouring Honeydew is also a hive of industrial and economic activity and construction powerhouse Renico is often involved in commercial residential and industrial developments in and around the Honeydew area. Another prominent business park is the Wild Fig Business Park.

North Riding Infrastructure:

North Riding is considered to be a slightly older more country style residential and industrial area situated on the outskirts of the epicentres of the sprawling province hence infrastructure is not as developed as areas such as Sandton. However, the area still enjoys key world-class infrastructure. Some of the prominent education facilities in the area include the PLG Northriding Academy, PLG Dimples Creche and Northriding College. Prominent medical facilities in the area include Netcare Olivedale Hospital, Northriding Medical Centre, and the Razorite Olivedale Medical Centre.

Honeydew Infrastructure:

Some of the prominent education facilities in the Honeydew area include the African Leadership Academy the Canterbury Preparatory Primary School and the Charterhouse Preparatory School. Prominent medical facilities include Visiomed Medical Centre, Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital and the NHC Honeydew.

Roadways around North Riding and Honeydew:

Some of the main roads which integrate the North Riding area include Bellairs Drive, Blandford Road, Derby Drive, Hyperion Drive and Pritchard Drive. Some of the roads that run through and around the Honeydew area include Beyers Naude Drive, Yacht Street, Blueberry Street and Citrus Street.

Distance from Key Points (Airport/CBD)

Honeydew is situated roughly 50.3km from the OR Tambo International and it’s believed to take roughly 40 minutes travel time depending on traffic. From the central business district, it’s believed to be around 21.3km and takes 38 minutes. If one wishes to travel to the North Riding area via the OR Tambo International Airport it’s believed to be roughly 43km and it’s said to take roughly 32 minutes. From the central business district, it’s roughly 24.9km and it’s believed to take roughly 40 minutes depending.   

Malls/Shopping

Popular shopping areas in North Riding include Bel Air Shopping Centre, All Saints Shopping Centre, and the FNB Bank ATM Northriding Square. Shopping facilities in Honeydew include Honeydew Village, Playtex and Stepping Stone Garden Village.

Transport

If one wishes to travel to either Honeydew or North Riding one will have to make use of the various bus or minivan services that run throughout the greater Gauteng area. Alternatively one can also utilize meter taxis. At this stage the world-class Gautrain service does not have a train that runs to the area, however, 19 new stations are being planned including one to Honeydew.
