BMW South Africa to open training centre in Rosslyn

Category Industrial Property News

Skills development is highly important for the progression of any country. Major corporations have an obligation to help in developing these said skills. According to an article published on businesstech earlier this year, unemployment has dropped slightly from 27.7% to 26.7% in South Africa. These statistics are based off reports from the end of 2017. However as far as global standards are concerned this is still seen to be high, with South Africa being in the top 30 highest countries in the world in terms of unemployment.

BMW South Africa has just opened a new training facility near their operational base in Rosslyn, Pretoria which is set to see a major injection to the economy of the area as well as South Africa in general. R73 Million is being spent on the training facility which is set to put Rosslyn even further on the map as a popular destination for industrial and commercial development.

The facility will be very much based on modern technological advances which are highly pivotal in both developed and developing economies. “Modern manufacturing skills such as robot programming, advanced computer numerical control simulation, and training on electric vehicles have all been included at the new academy. An accredited trade test centre has been incorporated into the building, allowing learners to achieve their trade qualification in-house. This functionality will also be extended to the public in the course of 2018”. - http://www.engineeringnews.co.za

Leading industrial property brokerage API Property Group has sighted Rosslyn as a suitable and credible location for industrial development. They have 54 listed properties available for rental in this highly sought-after industrial area. Various high-end brands such as BMW have decided to make this location their home showing the undeniable credibility of the area. The rentals available in this area range from both spacious to slightly more compact warehouse space with ample space for parking mainly for larger vehicles and utility trucks moving larger goods. This is why the area has become popular within the automotive industry as premises are generally less congested then more affluent and developed areas nearby such as Linbro Park or the Eastern parts of Pretoria. Employees also have the option of cheaper residential areas near to work as opposed to the more expensive areas in neighboring Pretoria East or Johannesburg.

However, this new training facility isn’t the only investment the German-founded automotive company has awarded South Africa. It has a vested interested in the area and country and has injected large amounts of funds towards various projects over the last few years.

“The R73-million training centre investment is the latest in a round of funding from the German car maker in its South African operation. This includes R6-billion for the production of the new BMW X3 at the plant; an additional R160-million to enhance production line speed and to raise maximum production capacity by 10% to 76 000 units; R400-million for the expansion of the company’s Midrand campus and a new distribution centre; a 100% increase in the number of jobs in the information technology function from 400 to around 800; and a R2.2-billion investment from BMW dealers in the dealer network.” - http://www.engineeringnews.co.za.This is a clear indication that BMW is invested in creating employment in South Africa.
