Lanseria 'Takes Off' with Carbon-Neutral Mega Smart City

Situated North-West of Johannesburg with easy access to Sandton, Midrand, and Fourways, Lanseria is set to be transformed into one of Gauteng's first smart cities. A joint project between the Investment and Infrastructure Office in the Presidency and the Gauteng- and North West provincial governments, the project will include a business gateway, a "three tower" precinct and a corporate estate. In addition to new Gautrain routes connecting to Joburg CBD and OR Tambo International, state-of-the-art, multi-use smart facilities will stretch from Lanseria in Gauteng to Hartbeespoort Dam in North West.
Based on reports by MyBroadband, the Lanseria smart city will be designed to provide a mixed-use residential development and business district. Between 350,000 and 500,000 people will be able to call the smart city home within the next decade, enjoying 5G-ready- and green infrastructure, alongside commercial and corporate facilities. In addition, the city also aims to be an ICT-, training-, and research centre complete with tourism and leisure attractions.
With additional investment in road- and freight infrastructure development, the Lanseria Airport City Mega City is set to become a manufacturing, logistics, and business hub. Significant development over the past decade at Lanseria airport (HLA) - initially an executive airstrip for corporate travellers and now hosts flights to Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban on a daily basis - has seen a marked increase in industrial activity in the area in recent years.
